A Study of Aggression from an Ethological Perspective
Lee Moo-Suk

Abstract
The author reviewed aggression from the perspective of ethology. Human beings are not naturally endowed with killing weapons and so have no devices to inhibit intra-species aggression. It is, therefore, in light of ethology, expected that the possession of weapons by human beings leads to dreadful killings and high rates of casulties. Fortunately, human beings biological nature shows characteristics of a matriarchal society. Ethologists have reported the Bonobo(pygmy chimpanzee) society also exhibits a peaceful and matriarchal nature. Bonobo society is female-centered, altruistic, and does not commit murder. Notwithstanding, Bonobos are very similar to human beings in terms of their bipedal locomotion, high intelligence and even their genetic configuration. In human society, it has been seen that not only pathological aggression but also mental illness can be caused by deficits in maternal caring for infants. It can therefore be argued that maternal love is the only thing that can truly protect our own species from the killing and wide-spread destruction caused by man-made weapons.
